Spiritual Life Council

We are currently in the process of forming the Spiritual Life Council. Its focus is on determining programming that fills our deep wells so that we can respond in love and patience to the challenges of our Church and world.

DETAILS
There are a maximum of 12 seats on this council. The role of this council is to keep close watch on the spiritual life of the St. Agnes and ISLC communities, and create programming that meets the variety of different needs present in different segments of our communities.

PROCESS & VOLUNTEER REQUIREMENTS
Once we have gathered the names of interested volunteers, we will hold an initial morning of reflection in mid-March 2017. In addition to praying with the spiritual needs of our community, we will determine next steps that include how often meetings will be held, roles and responsibilities, and reasonable goals for the duration of the programming year (June 2017). The Council will break for July and August--as is customary for parish work--and reconvene in early September for a full session from September 2017 to June 2018.

Serving on this council requires a commitment. To participate in the initial start-up phase, you must be willing to participate from March to June 2017. Because the council is in the start-up phase, we cannot say how often the council will meet and what the workload will be. However, we can say that the commitment will be manageable because it will be discerned based on the unique makeup of the interested council members, and the combination of gifts and challenges that present themselves as the group gels.

The second phase requires a commitment from September 2017 to June 2018. There will be an "open enrollment" period, so-to-speak, where new volunteers (whose application has been approved) can take the open seats on the council. Those who participate in the start-up phase this year can renew their commitment for the second phase if both participant and leadership feel the partnership is a match.

A morning of reflection will take place in mid-September 2017, and any lessons learned from the initial start-up phase will be implemented into the work of this second session. There will be a second "open enrollment" period in January 2018 for new approved volunteers to take any open seats on the council.

Because this work requires a cohesive group dynamic, no volunteers will join the council once the open enrollment period ends unless the council approves it. However, if there is more interest, the ISLC will form council subcommittees dedicated to specific issues. There will always be room for willing people to participate in this work.

ABOUT US
A ministry of St. Agnes Parish in the Haight-Ashbury neighborhood of San Francisco, the Ignatian Spiritual Life Center has a three council structure that discerns the programming we need to live an Ignatian life of devotion and service. Our areas of focus are Church Justice, Global Justice and Spiritual Life. Each council offers programming aimed at mobilizing the larger community to love the world the way God intends. Programming includes adult education and faith formation, the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius, spiritual direction, opportunities for prayer and retreat, and an ongoing commitment to dialogue and service in our Church and world.
