We must have the courage to look honestly at who we are, what have done, and what we have failed to do. Not simply as an individual, but also as a community, and as a human family. Then, upon reckoning with what we see, we are hopefully profoundly moved to drop to our knees and say to our loving God, "Lord, I am so sorry. Please forgive me. Please forgive us." By joining with the Spirit in such a penetrating look at our interior, we allow God to breathe new life into us, to touch the jagged and tender wounds of our hearts, and to resurrect those parts of ourselves that have died bitterly from anger or quietly from neglect.
Sr. Joan Chittister offers this reflection: "Lent is the time to let life in again, to rebuild the worlds we’ve allowed to go sterile, to 'fast and weep and mourn' for the goods we’ve foregone. If our own lives are not to die from lack of nourishment, we must sacrifice the pride or the sloth or the listlessness that blocks us from beginning again. Then, as Joel (2:12-18) promises, God will have pity on us and pour into our hearts the life we know down deep that we are lacking." |

Join us for an hour of silent prayer and witness on the church steps as we pray for Immigrant Justice. Following the peace vigil, a guest speaker will share his or her experience of migration and invite us into deeper, critical reflection on how to accompany and advocate for immigrants and refugees as people of faith.

In this 3 week series, Fr. Ray will lead us in a discussion of William Barry's book, Finding God in All Things: A Companion To the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius, offering insight into the meditations that compose the four "weeks" of the Spiritual Exercises and allowing all of us to cultivate and live out of a rich interior life. Please RSVP to Grace@SaintAgnesSF.com Books are for sale through the Spiritual Life Center for $11.

ABOUT US
A ministry of St. Agnes Parish in the Haight-Ashbury neighborhood of San Francisco, the Ignatian Spiritual Life Center has a three council structure that discerns the programming we need to live an Ignatian life of devotion and service. Our areas of focus are Church Justice, Global Justice and Spiritual Life. Each council offers programming aimed at mobilizing the larger community to love the world the way God intends. Programming includes adult education and faith formation, the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius, spiritual direction, opportunities for prayer and retreat, and an ongoing commitment to dialogue and service in our Church and world. |
